April 14th 2010 We now post daily catch reports on the bottom of
our home page. You can also follow us on our Twitter page at
Twitter
or on our face book page at
Facebook.
Feb.12th 2010 The weather has been really making it hard to get
out fishing. I think I have been 2 times this month. The amber
jack fishing is really good. This time of year we catch the big
ones. 40 to 70 pound fish are common. The cobia will be showing
up on the color changes and temperature breaks that we get from
these rough conditions and cold fronts. I did sneak out 1 day
last week and found mana rays that were stacked with cobia. It
was a great day of fishing. However the next day I went and
never saw a thing. Cobia fishing is extremely hit and miss. I
think we could have some luck on spinner sharks and possibly
even a thresher. I have seen a few breaking the water about 15
miles out. However our typical shark trip would not be very good
right now. The water temperature near shore is to cold.
Jan 20th 2010 The fishing the last few days has been a little
bit challenging. The main reason is due to the 4 month closure
of grouper & red snapper. We have been doing very well catching
limits of amber jack. The king fish have also been very
cooperative earl in the month. That being said, the past few
days the kings have not been around do to the water temperature
being so cold. However today we caught 4 kings and I expect the
action will be fast and furious as the water warms back up. We
can also expect some good cobia fishing off of the warm edge
where that cold water meets it. If you are looking for some
especially tasty fish to take home we have been doing very well
using light tackle to catch trigger fish & sea bass. These fish
are usually less than 3lbs but as far as table fair they are
unmatched.
December 6th 2009 Fishing is absolutely as good as it gets right
NOW! Slow trolling for kings is providing unstoppable action
with allot of big fish. We are catching numerous cobia while
slow trolling. Sailfish and mahi are also in the mix. Bottom
fishing for snapper, amber jack & grouper is also on fire. The
time to fish is now because patience is not required. It is like
fishing in a barrell.
September 30th 2009 This past week the red snapper fishing
has been phenomenal. That being said everything else has been
very poor. Any day the slow trolling for kings is going to
be awesome and we can expect fast action from these ferocious
feeders. The last shark trip was awesome. We caught several
black tip sharks and a couple very nice lemon sharks.
August 22nd 2009 Live bait trolling has been very
productive lately. We are steadily catching nice king mackerel,
cobia and the occasional dolphin fish. The amber jack fishing
has been really good. The amber jacks have been between 25 and
60lbs. The grouper and snapper have been pretty slow going,
however things might change after this big ground swell. Shark
fishing has been really good but the last 2 trips have been very
slow, again this might change after this big swell. We will be
out fishing everyday the next few days. I will write another
report after we test the bottom fishing and shark fishing.
July 9th The live bait trolling is really good right now.
We are catching allot of nice king fish and cobia. The kings are
always the most abundant and are eager to provide plenty of drag
screaming rod bending action. The barracuda have been around to
also keep the rods bent and are eager to eat a struggling king.
The bottom fishing did shut down a few days after my last report
but the snapper and amber jacks are biting fairly decent right
now. We have caught a few nice grouper in the last couple trips.
Hopefully the bottom fishing will continue to improve but for
the fastest action the live bait trolling cant be beat. Here
recently we have been live bait trolling just a few miles from
the inlet. The fish being that close provides for plenty of
fishing time because of the short boat ride. The kings have been
10lbs to 35lbs plus cobias, barracudas and jack crevalle, sharks
and the occasional tarpon. The nightly shark fishing has very
good. We are catching black tips, spinner, nurse and lemon
sharks.
June 6th 2009 The fishing has been really good this past
week. We are doing especially well live bait trolling. We are
catching kings, mahi and cobia. The barracuda and bonito are
also eager to eat a live pogy This is a great month to catch
sailfish. The best way to target sails is to troll ballyhoo. We
should continue to catch nice mahi (dolphin fish) while trolling
ballyhoo. The bottom fishing has definitely improved the past
week. We have caught some nice snapper and grouper along with
the amber jacks. However the bottom fishing can get very
unreliable as we get into the summer months. The biggest
improvement has been the nightly shark fishing. The last 2 night
have been very good. We have caught some nice lemon sharks,
nurse sharks and big bottom rays.
May 13th 2009 The variety here recently has been awesome.
We have been doing allot of live bait trolling this past week
and it has been very consistent. We are catching king fish,
cobia, mahi, sail fish, barracuda and bonito on any given day
live bait trolling. Most of the action is coming from the kings
and the fish have been ranging from 10 to 30lbs. The straight up
trolling to target mainly dolphin, wahoo and sail fish has been
EXTREMLY hit and miss. One day you will catch anywhere from 8 to
15 nice fish and the next day you cant get a bite. The bottom
fishing is what I would describe as SOSO. We have been catching
a few nice red snapper but successfulness really depends on what
the current is doing. Just last night I would say we had our 1st
good night of shark fishing for the season. We caught about a
10ft lemon shark. We also caught some big nurse sharks, black
nose sharks and big bottom rays.
April 27th 2009This month has definitely made the entire
Sea Leveler crew earn the charter boat award for making it
happen (if their was such a award). We have had some great trips
and every trip we have caught some nice fish but not many of
them came easy. The dolphin bite has been good one day and none
existent the next. The bottom fishing has my head spinning, one
day you get a good bite in shallow water the next day no bite. After that go even shallower and later that same day you need to
be deeper than 200ft to get a bite. When you do find them they
are nice fish. Snapper 10 to 20 lbs and the grouper are 20 plus. WHAT IS GOING ON? The live
bait trolling has been very good on most days and the fish have
been close to home. We are fishing only a few miles from Cocoa
Beach and doing very well on kings and the occasional cobia to
spice things up. The big jacks have shown up and they are
awesome fighters along with some barracuda for fun. The shark
fishing has yet to really hit full stride. On our last outing we
caught 2 sharp nose sharks and two bonnet head sharks. The sharp
nose and bonnet heads are the smaller sharks we catch, usually
3ft or less and not weighing more than 15 lbs. We did have 3
shots at larger sharks that same night but they didn't want to
stay hooked. I do believe the fishing will get more consistent
as soon as the weather does. I suggest if you are planning a
trip in the next week or so to go the full day. Like I said we
have had great catches on every trip it just takes a little more
looking around than it normally does. Call me if you are wanting
to go shark fishing because it is going to break loose any time
now and sometimes it takes a while to get a fishing report in. I
will let you know exactly what we caught on our most recent
trip. Call us and give us a chance to show you why Sea Leveler
is the charter boat you want to take your family fishing on.
April 1st 2009 The last 2 weeks have been tough. The
weather was terrible and didn't allow us to do any fishing for
13 days. We have fished the past 2 days and the fishing was
surprisingly pretty good. The trolling action was slow but the
few mahi we did catch were nice fish. I think as we get a little
further along in the month the trolling action should be very
good. The bottom fishing was also surprisingly good. We caught
some monster amber jack and a few nice grouper. The sight
fishing for cobia seemed to slow a little but we did manage to
find 1 nice fish on our last trip and a few triple tail. The
cobia are not more than a few miles off Cocoa Beach, Port
Canaveral. This makes for a nice relaxing day of fishing because
of no long run to the fishing grounds. The shark fishing is
starting to show signs of improvement. We caught a few black
nose and spinner sharks along with some nice red drum and bottom
rays on last nights shark trip. I think as the water continues
to clean up, all the fishing should just keep getting better.
Mar. 1st 2009 The snapper fishing continues to be phenomenal. We
are catching nice size snapper along with a few grouper and
cobia. The cobia are starting to show more frequently and soon
we will be sight fishing for them. The king mackerel bite is
still very good. The bigger 20 plus pound fish are not as
frequent as last month but just yesterday we caught 6 kings over
20lbs. The mahi (dolphin fish) should start to show more toward
the end of the month and should provide some awesome action
while live bait trolling. Unfortunately the shark fishing the
last few trips has been very poor. I do expect it to pick up as
soon as the water temp raises a few more degrees. If you have
plans to visit Orlando, Cocoa Beach or any of the surrounding
areas of Port Canaveral please call us at 321-794-3474 for a up
to date fishing report.
Feb. 1st 2009 The waters off-shore of Cocoa Beach are loaded
with fish right now. The fishing has been really good all of
January but the last few days have been phenomenal. The king
fish are still biting awesome, just yesterday we caught one that
weighed 47lbs (smoker). The red snapper are still biting great
and the grouper are really starting to show also. We are also
catching several cobia & the occasional mahi while slow trolling
for the kings. The cobias have also been following up the
snapper while bottom fishing. When that happens we pitch a live
bait to them on a spinning real and it is game on. We have been
seeing several mana rays that have cobia with them. It is
somewhat unusual to see the cobias with mana rays this early but
I wont complain The shark fishing has been slow but if you ever
want a chance to catch a sand tiger shark the time is now. Sand
tiger sharks are considered a threaten species but we can catch
them and release them unharmed. They are awesome looking sharks.
They have brown patchy spots on them and their teeth stick out
everywhere. We are averaging 1 to 4 tiger sharks per trip right
now and they are between 125 to 200lbs 7 to 10 ft in length. If
you are visiting Orlando, Cocoa Beach, or anywhere in the Space
Coast area and you and your family/friends are looking to do
something memorable and fun. Right now is the time to experience
a awesome fishing trip. Give us a call at 321-794-3474 and talk
to us about fishing. I am sure we can find a trip that is right
for your group.
January 4th 2009 The new year fishing has kicked off red hot.
Red snapper, red snapper and more red snapper. Along with the
red snapper our king mackerel bite is insane. We are catching
the kings one after another, however they have been traveling
back and forth between a 50 mile stretch of water. If you are
planning a half day trip. I suggest scheduling it for the
afternoon, this way we can contact our friends that are already
out fishing and we will know where or where not to go. We are
also catching amber jacks while bottom fishing and cobias while
trolling for kings. The shark fishing is very slow. Shark
fishing probably wont be really good for a few more months.
December 10th 2008 The king mackerel have officially moved into
the waters of Cocoa Beach in full force. It has been
unbelievable this past week, when the bait hits the water you
will have a king mackerel ready to attack it. We are also
steadily having cobia charge the boat and with each day we will
see more and more cobia invading the reef. The bottom fishing is
also very good. The red snapper are biting really well and the
grouper are starting to follow suit. Amberjacks are also all to
ready to test your strength and pull against you until you say
uncle. If you are thinking about taking a break from the Orlando
theme parks and giving deep sea fishing a try, let me tell you
this is the time to go. No patience is needed because the
fishing is that good.
November 9th 2008 Finally we got a few nice days to go fishing
and it was awesome. The red snapper are absolutely on the feed.
The last 3 trips we have limited out every time on snapper and
they are nice fish. Many of them are 10 to 15 lbs and a few are
20lbs and bigger. We are also catching some big grey grouper
20lbs to 35lbs. After limiting out on snapper the last trip I
had about 45 minutes left and decided to slow troll. We caught 2
kings very quickly and then landed a 52lb wahoo. The kings will
be here (I think they already are) any day now and we can expect
some fast action on the troll. We should also see some nice
cobia in the mix. The shark fishing is very slow right now but
if you are interested in a port trip we are getting some fast
action from jacks, lady fish, and blues. We will also have some
good pompano fishing along the shoal for those who are looking
for an alternative to deep sea.
October 7th 2008 The fishing this past month has been extremely
unpredictable. The weather has been terrible only giving us a
few days to go fishing. On the days we do get out we are
catching a good variety by trolling weed lines and color
changes. Dolphin fish, blackfin tuna and sail fish can be
expected on any given day. The bottom fishing is a little
unpredictable. One day its good and the next day its poor.
However the winter months are great for bottom fishing, we just
need to wait for the bite to turn on. I know this report doesn't
seem all that positive but as soon as we get a few consecutive
days of good weather I am absolutely positive we will have great
fishing. The shark fishing has been very poor. It should be good
right now because of the endless amount of bait fish (mullet)
running along the coast. I think we need the water to clean up a
little and the shark fishing will be game on.
August 25th 2008 Today was the first trip out since Tropical
storm Fay dumped gallons upon gallons of water onto the state.
Unfortunately the fishing was horrible. We tried everything. We
slow trolled a few different areas. We bottom fished everything
from 60ft, 100ft, 140ft, 160ft, 220ft and 260ft. We also fished
behind shrimp boats trying to chum up anything. We tried fishing
shallow wrecks for cobia and sight fishing a hard edge in about
45ft of water. On a positive note the water didn't look to bad
at all. The water was surprisingly clean and the fishing should
really improve within a few days. We also went shark fishing for
the first time since Fay. The shark trip was very successful.
The water level from the storm is way up and the Canaveral locks
are staying open to let water out of the lagoon. This is pushing
a ton of bait out the mouth of the port and causing a feeding
frenzy of red drum, snook, flounder etc. In return the sharks
are feeding on everything. We caught a 7ft lemon shark a big
bottom ray, 2 red drum and a handful of mangrove snapper. We
also missed a few other large sharks. I will post another report
after the weekend and hopefully I will have a better report for
offshore.
July 28th 2008 The live bait trolling continues to be the
best bet for a action packed day of fishing. We are still doing
very well with the king mackerel. The kings are nice fish
ranging 10 to 30 pounds. We had a few trip last week where we
caught several 30 plus pound kings and 1 that weighed 44lbs. The
cobia are definitely still around. Some days we have several
cobia and some days we don't catch any but they are always a
welcomed bonus while slow trolling. The dolphin have been about
the same as the cobia. Three days ago we trolled ballyhoo for
over 2 hours and never even saw a dolphin and the next day we
were live bait trolling and started to see them everywhere. We
caught 20 dolphin that day. The bottom fishing is started to
pick up. We are catching mostly amber jacks but a few grouper
have been in the mix. I think in a few weeks the bottom fishing
should be real good. The shark fishing has dramatically slowed
within the last week. We are still catching a decent number of
sharks but most of them are very small. I think the shark
fishing will pick back up after a strong current we have had
close to shore goes away. The sharks tend to prefer slightly
dirtier water and the current is keeping the water very clean.
June 20th 2008 The live bait trolling has continued to be
awesome. The king mackerel are very numerous and very willing to
bite. Yesterday we caught 23 king mackerel, 1 cobia, 1 bonito
and 4 barracuda. That is a very fun, non stop action packed day.
This is excellent fishing for kids because most of the time
patience is not needed. The bottom fishing for grouper and
snapper is very very slow. We have a thermo cline that has the
bottom very cold and dirty. We have been able to pick at a few
snapper in the shallow water but no luck at all in the deep
water. The shark trips have been very productive with several
species being caught every night. Black nose sharks, nurse
sharks, atlantic sharp nose shark, spinner sharks and the
occasional big lemon shark. We also have caught several nice
king mackerel, jack crevalle and tarpon on some of our most
recent shark trips.
May 25th 2008 The live bait (pogies) has arrived and the live
bait trolling has really been productive. The last few trips the
king mackerel have been really putting on a show. The last trip
out we caught 14 kings in 1 and a half hours we also landed a
cobia and a nice 15lb dolphin. The nightly shark trips have been
very good also. We are catching several sharks each trip. Most
of them smaller atlantic sharp nose & bonnet head sharks but we
are getting a few large lemon sharks and hammer head. The
trolling for dolphin has slowed considerably but we might get a
second run here soon. The bottom fishing for grouper and snapper
just cant seem to get good. Some trips we are doing very well in
areas and the next day you cant get a bite. If you are looking
for fast pace action and just all around awesome fishing. Let us
take you and your family/friends out for a day of live bait
fishing and I guarantee you will have a action packed fun filled
day.
April 28th 2008 We have had a chance to test the bottom fishing
this last week. We did very well on red snapper in the shallow
water but we only had 1 grey grouper. The deep water is still
very poor on the bottom fish. The trolling for dolphin is going
off. We haven't been catching great numbers of dolphin but most
of the fish are in the 15 to 35 pound range and we have been
averaging 5 to 10 fish per day. Just last night the shark
fishing really seemed to pick up. We caught 7 sharks most of the
spinner and black nose but we did have a couple shots at some
real big sharks. They were most likely hammer heads or lemon
sharks.
April 15th 2008 Here soon we should be done with the cold fronts
and be ready for the calm days of summer. The cold fronts have
held the cobia here and we are still having great luck targeting
these fish in the later part of the day. This past week I have
seen some awesome dolphin fish being brought to the dock. I have
seen more 30 plus pound fish this past week than I normally see
in a year. The kings were on the reef about 18 miles out and
will be their with even more numbers when the water gets calm
and stays clean. The bottom fishing is very slow but it is
showing signs of improvement especially in the shallower water.
I will write another report the first day I have a good bottom
trip. Shark fishing is not red hot yet but we have caught some
really nice sharks in our recent trips. Big bull and lemon
sharks on a steady basis and we have had 1 giant hammer head on
the line that busted off after a 1 and 2o minute battle. On
average we are getting 3 or 4 sharks per evening.
March 3rd 2008 Look out here come the cobia for their migratory
assault on Port Canaveral. The cobia fishing has been awesome.
We are steadily finding them on the reefs and many wrecks we
have offshore Canaveral. On several occasions in the last few
weeks I have walked to the transom of the boat to find up to 20
cobia asking me to feed them something. We have also spotted
several mana rays escorting cobia and sight casting to cobia
under big mana rays is just awesome. The mackerel bite has
slowed a bit because of the cold fronts that have decided to hit
us every 3 days but I think as soon as we get into some
consistent warm weather and a ocean that remains calm and clean
the kings will be back in full force just as good as last month.
The bottom fishing has remained real solid with nice catches of
grouper, snapper, and some very large back breaking amber jack.
The bottom fishing did seem to be a little slow yesterday I am
not sure exactly why but I will report back the next time we go
bottom fishing. Soon we should have some decent dolphin fishing,
I have started seeing several schools of very small fish but I
believe the good ones will be here soon. The shark fishing has
been a little slow, most night we are only getting 2 or 3 shots
at sharks but some of the ones we have been getting are the nice
sand tigers in the 300lb range.
Feb 8th 2008 We have been fishing non stop for almost 2 weeks
now. Just about everything is biting. We have been steadily
catching smoker king mackerel with many of the fish weighing
well over 25lbs. The cobia run has started early Capt. Stan has
already put a 59 pounder on the dock and we have had
several over 30 pounds. The grouper, snapper and amber jack are
still biting as good if not better than they were in November.
The shark fishing is very good, Capt. Dave caught his first sand
tiger a few nights ago. The shark was estimated around 400lbs.
The only thing that is not biting is trolling for dolphin and
wahoo but it should pick up in April and May.
January 9th 2008 We went out and tested the bottom fishing today
after receiving a excellent report from Capt. Stan who fished
with the Wednesday crew the day before and did very well with
several grouper and snapper. The bottom fishing is just fine we
fished 3 spots and caught 4 gag grouper 6 amberjack and several
red snapper that were just short of keepers we also busted
several grouper off. We left a few hours to king fish and
we quickly caught our limit of 14 fish. I also got a chance to
test the shark fishing. While it wasn't red hot we did manage to
catch 1 real nice spinner shark about 6ft and lost a few others.
January 2008 The fishing right now is on fire. On most day's we
are catching king mackerel as fast as we can put bait in the
water and on other days you might have to wait 30 seconds. The
cobia have really started to show in good numbers and most of
them have been big fish in the 25 to 50 pond range. Also while
targeting the kings we have been catching the occasional
sailfish witch is always a welcomed bonus. The bottom fishing
has been really good and should remain that way, however the
last few days it has slowed a bit. I am sure after the ocean
calm's and we can get back out to the deep water the grouper,
snapper and amberjack will be back on the feed. I will post
another report as soon as I get a chance to test the bottom bite
in the deep.
November 2007 This month can be really exceptional for bottom
fishing. The grouper and snapper can really stack up on the many
wrecks and reefs we have offshore Canaveral. While targeting the
grouper and snapper we frequently catch cobia & numerous other
species. Thanksgiving day kicks off the start of are king
mackerel run. The kings will stack up by the thousands (yes I
said thousands) on the reefs. It can literally be a non-stop
fire fight with these awesome fish jumping clear out of the
water when they strike. The best part about targeting these
kings is when the conditions are right you don't need to have any
patience. On our shark trips. We are still consistently catching
large black tip and spinner sharks. We are also catching black
nose and bonnet head sharks. The fishing will be great as long
as we don't stay beat down by tropical storms and strong North
winds. If we do get tropical storms coming thru the area, make
sure you are ready to go fishing as soon as the ocean calms
down. We will have debris and strong color changes where we can
catch mahi mahi (dolphin), wahoo and sail fish.
September 2007 The fishing has remained excellent all year
long and this month shows no sign of slowing. The first week of
September we were plagued with bad weather and it did make the
first couple trips of the month difficult. Now that we have the
calm ocean back, the fishing is on. The king mackerel are biting
fast and furious on the reef and we are still getting the
occasional cobia, dolphin and black fin tuna in the mix while we
are targeting the kings. We are also catching large barracuda
just about every trip while targeting the king's (Barracudas
love to eat king's right off the line). Barracuda are a awesome
sight to see. Yes they often will eat a good dinner fish for the
table but when you get the chance to do battle with one, they
truly are impressive. The bottom fishing has remained solid. We
are catching very nice gag grouper; several of them over 30lbs.
The amber jack have been very numerous also and pound for pound
nothing fights better than a amber jack. The mullet run is on
along our coast and this is great for the shark fishing. We are
not catching many of the smaller sharks but we are getting a few
shots each trip at large spinner and black tip sharks. These
sharks have typically been over 100lbs. The shark trips have
also been producing some nice tarpon and they are always a
welcomed bonus.
We look forward to taking you your family and friends fishing.
